CROSSING THE BRIDGE

This film documents the friendship between Sandor Weores, the Hungarian poet twice nominated for the Nobel Prize, and William J. Smith, former Poet Laureate of the USA. It contains some of my best visualizations of literary poetry and had a major impact following its broadcast by MTV, Hungary.

This film essentially changed how poetry was presented on television, replacing the simple “talking head” of actors with visual interpretations of the poems. The following film poem is an interpretation of Sandor Weores’s immortal verse about his own mortality.
